Tarana

This is a motivational journey of a girl, Tarana, who inspired thousands of girls to dream and achieve something in life. Tarana who received her primary schooling in Ghaziabad district, lives with her parents and 5 siblings. Her father is a pickle seller and works hard to make ends meet.

When she was in class VI, she was selected for Meena Manch and got the opportunity to play a significant role in the Meena play. In 2011, students of all the schools were preparing for district level science exhibition. Although she was part of it, her poor financial condition made it hard for her to participate in the competition actively. Noticing that something was bothering her, her teacher assured that everything will be taken care of.

Under her guidance, Tarana made a model on global warming which bagged the first position at district level context and was selected for state level science model competition.

Although she did not win in the next competition, it was a great learning experience for her. Meanwhile, in the block level competition, she secured first position in debate, quiz and cultural programs. This boosted her self-confidence. She was on cloud nine when she took an autograph of the former president, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.

Unfortunately Tarana could not continue her studies after class VIII owing to financial constraints. Her sister’s broken marriage also affected Tarana quite deeply. She shared with the teacher that her father was not ready to send her to co-ed school. She motivated Tarana to perform well in school, as this would encourage her father to continue studies.

Tarana followed her teacher’s advice and passed class IX with flying colours.

Hear teacher visited her house to speak with the father, assuring him that she was an extremely capable girl who will make him proud one day.  Tarana’s father got her admitted to JLM School where she worked hard and became a champion in boxing, winning several gold medals.

Says elated Tarana, “I was also selected as Ghaziabad brand ambassador of a flag ship programme for girl’s education (BBBP) by the government. I am happy that I was able to inspire thousands of girls. At present, I am in class XII. Recently, I participated in a national science technology camp and won the essay competition and group discussion.” During the workshop, Tarana was adopted by Dr. Shiksha (Income tax commissioner, Agra), who wants to help her get in to administrative services.
