Roshan Sori
Roshan Sori, a 13-year-old boy from Dantewada a Maoist violence-affected district of Chhattisgarh, has won the prestigious APJ Abdul Kalam Ignite Award for suggesting an idea to develop a software to instantaneously register a vote given through an electronic voting machine with the authorities. He is a Class 6th student studying and residing in a Residential School (Porta Cabin) of Sukma district. He came upon the idea after reading in newspapers that Maoist rebels often loot EVMs on the way to counting centers, causing delays and spiraling costs in the poll process.
“I am very happy that my idea was selected for this award. I feel that people who come from far-flung areas to vote will not have to suffer because of EVM loot and re-polling,” says Roshan.
